The Benefits Of Coconut Oil
Fat is a key player in any diet. With 9 calories coming from every gram of fat it is an easy way to increase calories in a diet. Fat is the most neglected macronutrient compared to protein and carbohydrates. The absence of fat in a Westernized Diet has destroyed America’s physical fitness and physique.
As you might know, not all fat is beneficial or created equal. Saturated, mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fat needs to be consumed. Stay clear of trans fat and hydrogenated fats often found in cakes, pastries etc.
We want to include good fats in the form of tree nuts, avocado, olive oil, coconut and coconut oil. Not a lot of people are aware of the benefits of coconut oil let alone how to use it or where to get it, so let us take a closer look.
In a nutshell coconut oil is made of medium chain triglycerides which is used in the body almost like a carbohydrate but without the spike in insulin. It is processed through the liver and is used for immediate energy, not stored with other fats in the body.
Some of the benefits:
- increases metabolism,
- quick energy
- boosts immune system
- healthy heart and cholesterol
- improved hair and skin
Cook with it, it is the most stable oil at high temperatures. Stop buying the vegetable oils and leave the olive oil for salads. Add to tea or coffee (my personal favourite). Add in to smoothies. Experiment with it!
I go through jar after jar of coconut oil and feel it really helps my body composition and energy throughout the day. Give it a try! If you would like any more information please do not hesitate to contact me.
